apps free Apps To Download For Free Today: KaleidoVid, Zombie Pizza, Auditorium, And Superstar Chefs

It’s Friday!  You know what that means don’t you?  Free apps, lots of them.  Today we have four free apps to show you, all of which are from some fairly prominent App Store developers, so get that index finger ready to start clicking some download buttons.

kaleidovid screen2 199x300 Apps To Download For Free Today: KaleidoVid, Zombie Pizza, Auditorium, And Superstar ChefsKaleidoVid ($.99 -> Free): A camera app that allows you to create unique kaleidoscopic images.  Just open the app, point your iPhone’s camera at anything, and tilt and turn your device to create a one-of-a-kind image.  Tapping the screen will freeze the image so you can quickly show it off to your friends, or you can save the image to your camera roll, share it on Twitter or Facebook, or email it.

KaleidoVid is free for a limited time.  The app requires an iDevice that sports a camera.

zombiepizza screen1 200x300 Apps To Download For Free Today: KaleidoVid, Zombie Pizza, Auditorium, And Superstar ChefsZombie Pizza ($1.99 -> Free):  Appy Entertainment’s zombie-fied matching/time management game requires you to create custom pizzas for hungry zombies by dragging the many disgusting ingredients that pass by on the conveyor belt onto the pizzas and sliding them out the door as quickly as possible.  If you fail to make enough of the correct kinds of pizzas, zombies will burst through the kitchen door and the game will be over.

Zombie Pizza is available for free today only (4/16/10).

auditoriumstep3 300x200 Apps To Download For Free Today: KaleidoVid, Zombie Pizza, Auditorium, And Superstar ChefsAuditorium ($2.99 -> Free): A refreshingly unique puzzle game that will have you guiding the flow of colored particles into audio containers to create delightful patterns and sounds.  You are able to manipulate the flow of the particles using arrows that can be stretched and shrunk to have more or less of an effect on the flow.  It’s a relaxing and also rather challenging experience.

Auditorium is a fairly short game, which is probably why it is now available for free.  Additional levels can be obtained as $.99 in-app purchases.

superstarchefs screen1 300x200 Apps To Download For Free Today: KaleidoVid, Zombie Pizza, Auditorium, And Superstar ChefsSuperstar Chefs ($.99 -> Free): Donut Games’ gazillionth free iPhone game has you controlling a chef who is on the hunt for fruit.  In each of the 64 levels you need to collect a specific number of fruit in order to complete the level, and the more fruit you collect in a single jump the higher the score.  Levels contain a variety of enemies and objects that must either be used to your advantage or completely avoided.  It’s basically Donut Games’ take on your everyday platformer.

You can expect Superstar Chefs to be available for free for at least a while because that’s just how Donut Games rolls.

There really is something for everyone on this list, so make sure to download at least one free app today.  Which are you most interested in?

KaleidoVid Video Kaleidoscope for iPhone

kaleidovid_2

Pop quiz: you’re a successful independent iPhone developer who’s personal management apps are beloved by critics and users alike, but you just really need a break, a way to recharge the batteries and have some non-managed fun, what do you do?

If you’re App Cubby’s David Barnard, you grab Polar Bear Farm’s Layton Duncan and Made by Rocket’s Dave Keller and you produce KaleidoVid [$0.99 - iTunes link], a colorful, eye-full of childlike wonder for the iPhone. And you make it as simple as it is elegant.

Point your iPhone camera at, well, anything you like (the more varied and vivid the better in our tests) and KaleidoVid instantly transforms the live view into a dazzling, multi-reflected kaleidoscope of lines and blobs, hues and shades, and with a click of a button saves them to your camera roll or lets you share them with friends over the ever-social Facebook or Twitter, or good old email. (Yeah, it’s pretty much instant wallpaper awesome in a bottle if you think the way we do).

Whether you want the same kind of refresh and recharge the developers were after, or you just want to give your child something light and fun to distract them, KaleidoVid is definitely an app to check out.

More screenshots after the break!
